THE FORGOTTEN BUSINESS MEN

I captured this picture in Chidambaram. An Extreme rare sight, but once so common in every road and by lane of this country. The Mobile Business Man (MBM) who pedals his way through, covering every house hold with “his consistent high decibel unique sales pitch” day after day and week on week.

These MBM’s have such a strong recall value, they by default do business with the lady of every household to barter old utensil for the new. These negotiations are generally tough and inflexible with the lady of the house demanding a bigger utensil for her highly used, generously dented, carbon stained medium seized, bottom holed utensil.

The heat from the negotiations will be so intense, even the Head of the family will be a mute spectator knowing that the negotiation is unfair and unreasonable for a bigger utensil.

Yet the MBM doesn’t walk away from negotiations, but tactfully seals it a win-win for both.

Never ever miss if you happen to visit your town or village where the culture of MBM’s still exist and be please be a part of the negotiation.

There will be heaps and tons of learnings you can imbibe!

  • MBM’s are consistent in what they do – pedalling all day (They Sow the Seeds)
  • They will have high decibel unique sales pitch (They Condition the Market)
  • They position themselves as brand ambassadors (High Recall value)
  • They know each and every house in every street (Market Intelligence)
  • They ensure win-win in every transaction (Creating Value to the End User)
  • They build a genuine rapport (Captive and Repeat Business for the Future)

If you are a business man – the above few steps will take you to new heights if you deploy it in your business model

If you are an Employee, the above steps if followed, will bring enormous visibility and growth

If you are in a Customer facing role, you will learn the art of taking your tough customers along

If you are Working woman/ Home maker you will learn the art of unrelenting negotiation for your rights and recognition.

These MBM’s may not look sophisticated, but they are hard wired business men.
